(5) Future Plan? 'Bawa' has to Sing and Whistle!
Wheel Type 0-4-0 ( Leading Wheels- Driving Wheels-Trailing Wheels).
Power: 20 HP
Mannufacturer: Borsig, Berlin.
Yr of Manufacturing: Between 1909 to1911.
Donated by Late Mr. DPR Cassad (MD of CP Syndicate, Nagpur and President of Institution Of Engineers 1957-1958.)
Year of Donation: Not known. Must be somewhere in Fifties or Sixties.
Before arriving in SGSITS, it hauled coal wagons in Damua and Kali Chhapar Coal Mines owned by Mr. DPR Cassad in Chhindwara District.
One of around four hundred Steam Locomtives, mostly owned by Railways and displayed at Railway Stations/Railway Offices.
One of the only seven Steam Locomotives kept in Academic Institutions of the Country.
Only Industrial Steam Locomotive kept in any Academic Institute of the Country.
Only Borsig Locomotive that has survived in the Country.
The Director, Faculty, Staff, Students and the Alumni must feel pride to have such a vintage locomotive in our own campus.
Having listed a few salient features of the steam Engine, one wonders what name should be given to this Steam Engine!?
I would just love to call it Bawa respectfully. Bawa is a colloquial term meaning a Parsi man. Considering the generosity of late Mr. DPR Cassad belonging to adorable Parsi Commnity; it will be most appropriate to name it 'Bawa' ! Besides, both in Nagpur and Indore, word Bawa is used extensively which means friend or buddy.
Furthermore, Steam Engines are called 'Power' in Railway Jargon. And 'Bawa' sounds in English just like 'Power'! Director or Governing body of the College, the real owners of the College, may decide to name it later as they wish. Temporarily, Bawa is the right name; Bawa!
And where should the Bawa be placed?
Ideally Bawa, The Iron Horse ( Steam Engine), should be placed right there in the open space in front of the Director's Office like a Nandi ( नंदी बैल) facing a Shiva temple.
Details, for now, are over. Naming is also done. Now what all are we supposed to do!?
First of all, it is really important to spread awareness about Bawa, the Iron Horse. While efforts are being made by this Alumnus, his reach is very limited. Only if some distinguished Alumni and Alumni Association appeal to all students past and present, the job will become much easier.
